Font Wrangler Revision 3 _______________________________________________________________________ Font Wrangler 5 has been updated. This release: - Adds visual thumbnails to the History section of the File menu to allow you to quickly access recent folders and fonts. We hasten to add that this feature can be configured or dispensed with entirely in the Setup window. - Adds a Save As button to the Font Sample window, allowing the sample text to be exported to a graphic file. - Fixes a bug in the Change Font Name function that prevented it from opening TrueType and OpenType fonts with poorly-formed OS/2 tables. Please trust us when we assure you that you don't want to know what that actually means, 'cept it's working properly now. - Updates the Change Font Name function to deal with several other weird-beard quasi-valid TrueType font files. - Speeds up the font display windows. - Updates the documentation. - Updates the validation logic to address some occasional hiccups that could manifest themselves during updates. You'll notice that it now displays an additional window after you complete the validation of this update. Fear not - it's a one shot deal. - Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues that software developers never really stop meddling with. Please visit: http://www.mindworkshop.com/fontrang.html#download to download Font Wrangler 5. ........................................................................ UPGRADES If you're still using Font Wrangler 4, we invite you to upgrade to the current software and enjoy all the new and enhanced functionality it offers. As of this writing, upgrades to Font Wrangler 5 are still available for half the single-user registration cost - $12.49. Please visit http://www.mindworkshop.com/upgrade.html to upgrade. _______________________________________________________________________ 2. Presentation Wizard 5 Revision 4 (Second Notification) _______________________________________________________________________ Presentation Wizard 5 has been updated. This release: - Adds resizable File Open and Save As windows. You can now make them as big as the universe itself - if you have a larger-than-normal monitor - and they'll stay that way between sessions. - Adds an HSB color adjustment option to Image objects. You can fine- tune the color of pictures after they're imported, or crank the controls to their extremes and warp the fabric of space-time. The latter facility should be used with care - warped space-time makes global warming look like an exuberant sneeze by comparison. - Rewrites several aspects of the document runtime to make them smaller and quicker. - Adjusts the metrics of several of the Shape object options. - Improves a number of aspects of the Right-click Menu objects. - Addresses several user interface issues throughout the application. Please visit: http://www.mindworkshop.com/prspro.html#download to download Presentation Wizard 5. ........................................................................ UPGRADES If you're still using Presentation Wizard 4, we invite you to upgrade to the current software and enjoy all the new and enhanced functionality it offers. As of this writing, upgrades to Presentation Wizard 5 are still available for half the single-user registration cost - $14.99. Please visit http://www.mindworkshop.com/upgrade.html to upgrade. _______________________________________________________________________ 3. Graphic Workshop Professional 5 Revision 6 (Additional Notification) _______________________________________________________________________ Graphic Workshop Professional 5 has been updated. This release: - Adds pin-able favorites. You can pin pictures from Graphic Workshop's browser windows to your Favorites galleries - a colored push pin will appear in the thumbnails of pinned pictures. Access your Favorites galleries by selecting Favorites from the Graphic Workshop File menu. Perhaps not surprisingly, there's an extensive discussion about the new Favorites technology in the Reference document. - Adds resizable File Open and Save As windows. You can now make them as big as the universe itself - if you have a larger-than-normal monitor - and they'll stay that way between sessions. The Save As window in the View window is the one you're most likely to have encountered. Adjusting the size of one of the Save As windows within Graphic Workshop itself will adjust the File Open and Save As windows in all its ancillary applications, such as GWS Camera Screen Capture, e-Paint UltraLight, Resource Extractor and so on. Once you resize one of the File Open or Save As windows within Graphic Workshop, its new size will be remembered between sessions. - Fixes a number of problems with the Fractals and Textures engine, some of which could crash Graphic Workshop. The others just created really nasty textures. - Updates the Web Gallery window to fix a bug in the JPG writer, remove ART support - in that none of the current web browsers seem to like it anymore either - and address a number of metrics issues. - Fixes several issues in the Search function, and updates the tool bar tips. - Fixes a problem in Resource Extractor that could cause it to crash or display weird pictures when it was confronted with unusual Bitmap resource types. - Fixes a number of cosmetic and user interface issues in GIF Construction Set UltraLight. - Updates the documentation. Moving Windows to a New Computer _______________________________________________________________________ Having recently updated some of the hardware at the offices of Alchemy Mindworks and having proven unwilling to undertake the unspeakable nihilistic horror of reinstalling Windows and all ten thousand applications, personal settings, oyster soup recipes, links, device drivers and passwords... and such... we devised a procedure for moving an exsiting Windows hard drive to a new computer without having to reinstall much of anything. We too were shocked when this worked, but it did. It reduced three or four days of software installation and configuration to about as many hours, which included several unscheduled pizza breaks. Should you find yourself in a comparable situation - with or without the availability of pizza - you can save your soul and impress your cat using the same procedure: http://goo.gl/DwyKUp Because this post appears at the Alchemy Mindworks blog and has a URL long enough to be seen from low Earth orbit, the foregoing is a shortened URL that won't get mangled by being e-mailed. If you'd like to hang onto the link to this post, we recommend that you bookmark it when you get there, rather than copying the foregoing short link. _______________________________________________________________________ 5.
