Announcing Calendar Wizard 8 _______________________________________________________________________ Calendar Wizard 8 has been released. We've refined the internal architecture of Calendar Wizard to make it faster, more memory-efficient and better able to take advantage of the functionality of Windows 7, 8 and 10. While most of the seriously cool changes embodied in Calendar Wizard 8 are "under the hood," users of the latest release will notice that it's noticeably quicker, especially for functions that call for significant system resources, such as managing complex calendars. The updated architecture will also allow us to add new features to Calendar Wizard that were impractical or genuinely impossible under version 7. ........................................................................ WHAT'S NEW The changes in version 8 include: - Adds double-sided printer support to allow double-sided bank-style calendars to be printed without having to pause and turn the paper over. There's a discussion about the finer nuances of double-sided printing in the Print section of the Reference document for Calendar Wizard's manual, but for the most part, if you have a double-sided printer, Calendar Wizard will detect it and print accordingly. - Adds a Preserve Pictures option to the Replicate window, allowing the Replicate function to propagate style changes to an entire calendar without nuking your existing graphics. - Improves the solid color selection buttons throughout the application with a quick palette selection window - just hold down the Shift key on your keyboard when you click to select a color to see it. There's a complete discussion of this window and how it interacts with the primary Colors window in the section of the Reference document that deals with Color Selection. - Improves some metrics in the dodecahedral calendars. Should you not have checked out this feature - it appeared mid-way through the life of Calendar Wizard 7 - it will print a 12-sided desk calendar that can be cut out and stuck together to form a three-dimensional object. - Calendar Wizard 8 will optionally import most of the configuration items of an existing Calendar Wizard 7 installation, if there's one on your system, eliminating the need to restore your preferences by hand. - Hardens the library interface underlying Calendar Wizard to make it more resistant to tampering. Sadly, the tampering in question appears to originate with some third-party security applications... which our lawyers would really prefer we didn't name. - Updates a number of user-interface issues throughout the application. - Addresses a number of GDI and performance issues that software developers never really stop meddling with. - Updates the documentation. We'd like to take this opportunity to express our sincere regrets for the minor bump in the price of Calendar Wizard. In our defense, it's been about a decade and a half since it last changed. Bookkeepers may not be the most irresistible force in the universe, but they are the most relentless. You can download Calendar Wizard 8 from: http://www.mindworkshop.com/calwiz.html#download ........................................................................ UPGRADES If you registered or upgraded a registration for Calendar Wizard 7 on or after April 1, 2017, you?re welcome to a free upgrade to Calendar Wizard 8. Announcing Pagan Daybook 8 (second Notification) _______________________________________________________________________ Pagan Daybook 8 has been released. We've refined the internal architecture of Pagan Daybook to make it faster, more memory-efficient and better able to take advantage of the functionality of Windows 7, 8 and 10. While most of the seriously cool changes embodied in Pagan Daybook 8 are "under the hood," users of the latest release will notice that it's noticeably quicker, especially for functions that call for significant system resources, such as displaying complex fractal screen savers. The updated architecture will also allow us to add new features to Pagan Daybook that were impractical or genuinely impossible under version 7. ........................................................................ WHAT'S NEW The changes in version 8 include: - Adds solar transitions functionality - Pagan Daybook can determine the precise times of sunrise and sunset based on your location. It will tell you when sunrise and sunset occurs for pretty much anywhere on Earth - select Days -> Solar Transitions from the right-click menu. It will also display the sunrise and sunset times for your location. We hasten to add that this feature can be disabled - see the discussion of Solar Transitions in the Reference document of the Manual for more. - Nails a bug in the screen saver that could cause it to crash or to fail to display all or part of the Pagan Daybook window, depending upon your version and configuration of Windows. Ya... that was an embarrassing one. - Improves the solid color selection buttons throughout the application with a quick palette selection window - just hold down the Shift key on your keyboard when you click to select a color to see it. There's a complete discussion of this window and how it interacts with the primary Colors window in the section of the Reference document that deals with Color Selection. - Updates the file handling logic for the Tiles fill type to make the whole works quicker and more memory efficient. - Pagan Daybook 8 will optionally import most of the configuration items of an existing Pagan Daybook 7 installation, if there's one on your system, eliminating the need to restore your preferences by hand. - Hardens the library interface underlying Pagan Daybook to make it more resistant to tampering. This release: - Addresses a number of issues that crept into the initial release of Graphic Workshop Professional 8. - Hardens the library interface underlying Graphic Workshop to make it more resistant to tampering. The Mysterious Disappearance of The Ultimate Screen Clock's Screen Saver (second Notification) _______________________________________________________________________ Depending upon your version and configuration of Windows, you might find that The Ultimate Screen Clock's screen saver in nowhere to be found if you upgraded from the version 7 software. There's a reason for this, but in that e-mail messages are limited to about two megabytes of text, we're not going to try to explain it here. If you discover your installation of The Ultimate Screen Clock 8 to be screen saver-less, please do this: 1. Uninstall The Ultimate Screen Clock 8 through the Windows Control Panel. 2. Download and install the current release of The Ultimate Screen Clock 8 from our web page: http://www.mindworkshop.com/clock.html#download 3. If upon running The Ultimate Screen Clock 8 you're prompted to copy an earlier configuration to your current software or to uninstall a previous version, decline these options. All should now be well. Please accept our apology if this issue has affected your installation of The Ultimate Screen Clock 8. _______________________________________________________________________ 5.
