Graphic Workshop Professional 14 Revision 11
<http://www.mindworkshop.com/gwspro.html>
*Graphic Workshop Professional 14* has been updated.
*In this release:*
* *JPEG Security:* The Graphic Workshop JPEG library has been updated
to the latest release to address several potential security and
performance issues. We'd like to take this opportunity to urge all
users of Graphic Workshop to update to this release, 'coz the
universe has a lot of really bad people in it.
The current version of the JPEG library is available in the About →
Credits window. It's currently 3.0.0.
* *PNG Security:* The Graphic Workshop PNG library has been updated to
the latest release to address several potential security and
performance issues.
The current version of the PNG library is now available in the About
→ Credits window. It's currently 1.6.40.
* *WebP Security:* The Graphic Workshop WebP library has been updated
to the latest release to address several potential security and
performance issues.
The current version of the WebP library is available in the About →
Credits window. It's currently 1.3.1.
* *Invalid File Names:* On occasion, graphics downloaded from the
Internet arrive with names that include illegal characters. Graphic
Workshop was hitherto unable to open them, and depending upon your
configuration of Windows, such files could crash the application.
This issue has been resolved — Graphic Workshop now handles files
with invalid names correctly, as do its ancillary applications. We
recommend a quick read of the discussion of invalid file names in
the Browser Windows section of Graphic Workshop's Reference document.
* *GWS Camera Screen Capture: *A bug in the manual select option of
Camera that terminated the application in some circumstances has
been remorselessly stomped. An issue that could cause the 32-bit
edition of Camera to crash under some configurations of Windows is
history.

Even More Important (Keep Trusting Us)
<http://www.mindworkshop.com/alchemy1.html>
*(It has come to our attention that some web browsers have hitherto
evoked alarming popups if they were asked to visit the links that appear
a few paragraphs below. Considering the content of this posting, there's
probably a measure of symmetry in this. These messages have been
banished **— click with confidence.)*
Alchemy Mindworks' software has traditionally been signed with a digital
certificate. The most visible function of this technology is to prevent
Windows from displaying scary messages when you install our stuff.
Earlier this year, the price of digital code signing certificates
escalated from exorbitant to extortionate. In the interest of keeping
our costs, and hence the prices of our products, as low as possible, we
decided to rethink the issue of code signing.
We've created what we consider to be an elegant resolution to this
issue. If you download and install Alchemy Mindworks software, we invite
you to install the Alchemy Mindworks trusted certificate
<https://blog.mindworkshop.com/alchemy-mindworks/installing-the-alchemy-mindworks-certificate/>
first. Click on the foregoing link for an approachable discussion of
this issue, and a two-minute walk-through to make the whole treacherous
conspiracy go away for the next decade.
While you're busy ridding your computer of some of Windows' more
nettlesome popups, we invite you to disable its Smart Screen blue window
of doom
<https://blog.mindworkshop.com/windows/disabling-windows-smart-screen-for-downloads/>
as well, another questionable security feature that's probably beset you
with concern of late.
There are few things you can do with a computer that are more satisfying
than spanking Windows.
Should you have any concerns about our software, the security thereof or
the issue of code signing, we invite you to contact us
<https://www.mindworkshop.com/email-alchemy.html>. We'll be pleased to
explain this situation in as much detail as you require, and the message
you receive will be signed by a living, breathing Alchemy Mindworks
staff member — not a certificate.
New Payment Processor
<https://www.mindworkshop.com/orderform.html>
Alchemy Mindworks has a new payment processor, the service that clears
credit card transactions for us.
Credit card transactions placed through our web page will now be
processed by Stripe Inc. of San Francisco, California. Founded in 2009,
Stripe is one of the most extensive financial service providers on Earth.
We can now accept payments by:
* Visa
* Mastercard
* American Express
* Discover
Our new credit card checkout page is a redoubtable bulwark of security.
When you enter your card information, it will only be available to your
credit card company. No one else will have access to it — not even us.
In the event that you encounter any issues or you have any questions
about our payment page, we ask that you contact us.
The credit card logos in the banner, above, were provided by
dreamstale.com. The animated banner was created with our PNG MNG
Construction Set <https://www.mindworkshop.com/pngpro.html>, 3D Effects
#1 <https://www.mindworkshop.com/animplugins-3d1.html> plugin and
